Update 7_19_16 On My Fight to Beat Alzheimer's

I realized that my last blog entry made it hard to see what I am taking and my eye doctor asked for and soon my neurologist will be asking next week for my latest list of meds and supplements. Here is the updated med and supplements list:
Current meds and supplements recommended by medical doctors, Vera Sacks and Irina Serebyakova both of Groton Wellness, “Hal Huggins Assist Report” and “Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing” by James F Balch M.D.and Phyllis A Balch C.N.C and various other sources, Dr. Perez and Dr. Rapa.
  1. Vera Sacks prescribed the following (as part of 2 times per day, upon rising, early evening at least 30 minutes before meals) as part of mercury detox

25 drops of Soluna Nr. 8 Hepatik for liver and bilary disorders and detox and drainage
25 drops of Soluna Nr. 9 Lymphatik for diseases of lymphatic system and detox and drainage
25 drops of Soluna Nr. 16 Renalin for kidneys and urogenital system and detox and drainage
    • 25 drops of Soluna Nr. 11 Matrigen II to support hormonal balance

Vera prescribed the following to help balance my bodies minerals since they were out of balance. She recommended I stop the multivitamin which contained calcium and too many other things which was antagonistic to increasing some minerals in which I was low. I also had to stop the vitamin D and boron supplements. Take the #4,#6, #8 and #11 cell salts three times a day between meals. See this article on cell salt remedies http://www.brighterdayfoods.com/PDFDocs/l/LR72WHCKJQ1V9LTGKT8CGWX7TM5B1NP5.PDF

Update July 6, 2016 On My Fight to Beat Alzheimer's

Update July 6, 2016
Its been a year since I started this blog. I have been lax in making blog entries again. I had two visits to Groton Wellness to see Vera Sacks and Irina Serebryakova, once on May 11 and again on June 28, 2016.

During my May visit Irina asked me to consider the benefits of amino acid therapy and gave me some info on it to read. I was already taking some amino acids at Vera's recommendation based on her exams before so I declined to do that therapy. She also showed me the Quicksilver detox therapy that I could try in lieu of or in conjunction with the Soluna therapy used by Vera. I didn't think I needed the Quicksilver mercury protocol since I had removed my mercury fillings a year earlier.

Vera had me switch to the Gemmotherapy instead of the Soluna therapy at the May visit. She prescribed Wine berry for bladder/intestines; Rosemary for liver and gall bladder; and Common Birch for detox of the kidney. I had been having problems getting anything from Soluna since it comes from Europe. I was still supposed to take Nux Vomica once per week, cell salts 4,6,8,11 three times daily, Rescue Remedy, L-tyrosine, L Glutamine, Zinc, manganese, Vitamin C, B6 and Selenium.

In the June 29, 2016 visit Irina gave me some things to test with Vera from Dr. Shade's Protocol for Mercury Removal – Level 2. I did not need his IMD or his Phosphatidyl Choline. What was needed was the Etheric Vitamin C w/R-LA. I had been taking the to much of the buffered sodium ascorbate which would give me diarrhea. This was liposomal so it absorbs in the mouth between cheek and gums.

Vera switched me back to the Soluna detox instead of the Gemmotherapy. I also was prescribed Matigen II by Soluna for hormone balance and also Pulmonic again for my lungs again. I also got Amalgatox for mercury detox and Ruta Gravelens (30C) for EMF radiation. She also recommended adding L-Glutathione for detox and HCL for digestion.

I will continue to add some links to my July 4, 2015 blog entry that comes to my attention from people like Tripp Micou. Thanks Tripp.

My sister in law told me that a new dentist out of Harvard Dental did not know that mercury amalgams were bad for people. They thought mercury from tuna was worse. I happened to find this link about mercury in tuna. https://www.nrdc.org/sites/default/files/mercury-in-tuna-calculation-summary.pdf

We shouldn't eat more than 1 serving of tuna per week since one serving has 60 mcg of mercury in albacore tuna. Using Dr. Huggins testing of mercury release from amalgam of 150 mcg per day I was getting the equivalent of 2.5 servings of tuna mercury per day from each filling. I had eight fillings at one time so that means I was getting the equivalent of 20 tuna servings of mercury per day for N decades. That is just to give any readers an idea about how much mercury they are getting every day from a mercury dental filling.

Update April 28, 2016 On My Fight to Beat Alzheimer's Too

There are a few things I have been doing the past couple of years which I should pass along since I believe they play a role in stopping my cognitive decline. One of the things my wife told me after my initial diagnosis was to “Stay positive.” She made sure I did this with daily affirmations which I changed a couple times to improve upon it. Here is what I do at 9 am which comes up on my iPhone. “I want my Alzheimer's to stop progressing. I believe it can. God and my guardian angels please help stop my Alzheimer's from progressing.

As you should know, exercise is supposed to be good for the brain to bring more blood flow to the brain. I used to go to aqua aerobics classes but I stopped that. I have some physical issues which make some things difficult. I have cervical kyphosis and spondylosis (neck reversed its curve and arthritis in my neck for all lay people) and 4 bulging discs. The neurologist said I should not do any impact sports, running or golf. That was a few years back and at a follow up last year after two years she confirmed it won't ever get better. Back then when I was in much pain and shots did not work, they sent me to the Arnold Pain Management Center part of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. They taught me to do transcendental meditation for fifteen minutes to relax my neck muscles and then the neck muscles could stretch again to keep my discs from rubbing against nerves. When they were too tight, I would sometimes get pins and needles pain in my face and sometimes my hands. I actually knew I was relaxing during meditation when I would feel the neck pain and pins and needles sensations in my hand but at least I was expecting it.

Another activity that I do due to my neck is “Spinal pumps” on the inversion table. http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/low-back-pain/inversion-therapy http://teeter.com/Benefits-of-Inversion/ I invert upside down for 10 seconds and then go back up for 10 seconds and do this for ten minutes. Irina Serebryakova told me to do this for my neck since we had an inversion table at home for when I had back pain. Besides putting synovial fluid in between my discs in my neck and back, it puts a lot of blood flow into my brain. So if you can't do a lot of exercise, just try some inversion table spinal pumps. One of the other reasons I don't exercise much is that I have plantar fascitis in both feet, more so on my left foot. Thus, being on my feet for long periods of time walking can be painful.

I still have cognitive difficulties as I noticed at a wedding I attended recently. Nothing like seeing all my cousins and their kids and trying to remember their names. Most telling was when I saw the bride walking down the aisle with her father.  I couldn't remember his name. I could remember the occasion my cousin introduced him to me 40 years ago when they first started dating but I couldn't pull the name out. This is a guy who I went to their wedding, we would see on family functions and funerals and we would visit occasionally over the decades at his house. It took a couple minutes before his name popped into my head. I have noticed a decline in some Brain Age training scores sometimes. My current brain age was 45 years old. I was having trouble remembering the 25 numbers in the 5 by 5 grid. I did pretty well on the other 2 tests. I try not to do the brain age test too often so it won't become too familiar to me and I guess I shouldn't be doing it at 6 pm when I haven't taken my second batch of pills at late afternoon snack. I said I do better taking them at snack time instead of later at dinner time. I hope I do better next time but hey, I am 58 and have MCI so I should not complain.

I occasionally add a few links to my July 4, 2015 blog entry with a lot of research in it. I should go through my other entries and copy them into that entry if it isn't already there. I am sorry if I snuck them in without dating them or appending them but I try to put them near similar areas - videos with videos.

I have been going to the senior center a lot to shoot pool and socialize with the older seniors. I am getting better and can win a few games occasionally. I am able to converse and have fun again.

I saw Vera and Irina from Groton Wellness a few weeks ago. Not too much different in the treatment regimen. Irina did want me to consider trying Neurotransmitter therapy next time. She also said that they carry Dr. Chris Shade's treatment therapies from Quicksilver Scientific. It isn't possible to include the PDFs she sent me here. But there is similar information about his topic available online.

My cousin Edwin who gave me the kombucha scoby also gave me a tip on another method used for heavy metal detox, food grade diatomaceous earth. Because diatomaceous earth has 19% calcium I can't try it and would need to consult with Vera and Irina first. But you can check it out at http://diatomaceous.org.

Irina's information about Glutathione methylation collapse and Neurotransmitter therapy articles are “Relative nutritional deficiencies associated with centrally acting monoamines” by Marty Hinz, Alvin Stein and Thomas Uncini http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22615537 and an article named “16 Glutathione methylation collapse.pdf” Similar info are at these links:

Update Mar 8, 2015 in my Fight to Beat Alzheimer's

On Saturday, while I was still on 5 mg of donepezil I did a Brain Age 2 Test and came up with an age of 70. It was not a full test with 3 parts to it, just a quick one part test but it was kind of depressing. But it was at 6:30 pm and most of the donepezil would have worn off by then.

Well, today after being on Huperzine-A for three days I did better. I do feel sharper in the mornings and afternoon so I should try to take my pills at late afternoon snack time than at dinner time. At about 4:30 pm I did some training and since I was doing well I decided to do the test which this time did all three parts of the Brain Age 2 test and came up with a brain age of 37. This isn't a big neurological test but it is something I am trying to use to gauge my sharpness which I have been using the last few years. It has never been this low. We shall see how things go in the future.

Update Mar 2, 2016 on My Fight to Beat Alzheimer's

Well, I tried weaning myself off donepezil by doing only 5 mg per day for 2.5 weeks. My estimation of my cognitive functioning seems erratic. Sometimes OK, sometimes not so well. Then I went onto using Huperzine-A. I noticed some regression where I couldn't plan and make lunch properly.

On Sunday, I had discussed the lunch menu with my wife of making curried turkey with onions and broccoli on basmati rice which I have made many times before. I started getting many of the ingredients together and started opening the ground turkey when my wife came down and saw that I hadn't gotten the onions and cut it up yet which needs to be cooked before the ground turkey. So she helped by cutting up the onions. Then she asked me about the broccoli which I hadn't gotten from the freezer yet either which needed to be done before the meats. We started cooking and then she looked around and noticed that I hadn't started the rice which should have been the first thing I started since that takes the longest, causing us to wait for lunch until the rice was done.

All this caused be to think about my huperzine so I checked my bottles which were from a long time ago when I had wanted to try it out after noticing some cognitive decline. I had started using it in 2011 and then upon more research I stopped because my research said I shouldn't be using it if I had fronto temporal dementia or may be on sertraline anti-depressants. That was after the doctors at McLean hospital diagnosed me as depressed and I thought there was a possibility of Pick's disease (from my PET scan report) and Alzheimer's wasn't even in the picture. So I stopped taking Huperzine back then. Now I had these three bottles of Huperzine-A and wanted to try them out now without looking for an expiration date. They were manufactured 4/2011 and research shows they have a shelf life of about two years if kept in a cool place. So I had to order some and go back on donepezil in the mean time.

For an examples of cognitive issues on 5 mg donepezil (half dose), on Tuesday, I made coconut macaroons and then tried to make a pumpkin pie. Both of those I have made many times before. The macaroons were fine. A simple recipe. The pumpkin pie I messed up because I had turned on the oven to preheat and it beeped and I wasn't done prepping the filling. I rushed and I forgot the evaporated milk in the filling. It was pretty thick and didn't look right pouring it in but I ignored it because the oven was ready and I was using canned pumpkin instead of my usual cooked frozen pumpkin that I had saved from Halloween. Its edible but not the same. This was when I was on 5 mg of donepezil taken 3 hours earlier. So you can see that at 5 mg my cognitive functioning is still spotty.

Regarding the neurologist's recommendation to do more socialization I went to the senior center to socialize with more seniors. I played billiards with someone on Monday and won three games and went to a billiards tournament on Tuesday afternoon to forget my baking mistake. Things went well at the tournament socially. Not so well playing wise. In the practice game I got one ball in and during the tournament I did better but I lost both games in the first round. I think I need some more practice though there was talk about me joining a Holliston billiards team.

I will update next time when my shipment of Huperzine-A arrives and I try that for a week.

Update to My Fight to Beat Alzheimer's - Weaning off donepezil

I wanted to provide an update on what has transpired since my last entry. My neurologist said I could continue the donepezil until my next 6 month visit before discussing tapering off. But he was also okay with my tapering off the donepezil over a two week period going with a ½ pill or 5 mg daily. He didn't know anything about Huperzine-A from my list of naturopathic and homeopathic remedies books which I gave him. These were Dr. Mark Stengler's “Natural Healing Encyclopedia”, Jenny Thompson's “Miracles from the Vault – Underground Cures” and Peggy Sarlin's “Awakening from Alzheimer's” that recommended the use of 200 mcg Huperzine-A (club moss) which is also a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor without the higher number of potential side effects that donepezil represents. It is recommended at 1-2 times daily (best at twice daily).

I have been on the half dose of donepezil for about 10 days but will continue until the end of my pill box runs out so after about 2.5 weeks I will go off donepezil completely and switch to Huperzine-A. I also removed the sage from my supplements list since I am trying to cut down on those cognitive supplements and I needed to make room for the Hyal-Joint (Hyaluronic acid) for my neck and frozen left shoulder which developed after a shoulder injury in November.  To date I have been doing fine or the same most of the time.  I did fine on Brain Age 2 training 40 minutes ago and it is now 9:38 pm as I am writing this entry.

For those without access to the books and its research, there is: http://www.realnatural.org/herb-extract-huperzine-a-treats-alzheimers-disease/

Update 1_27_16 in my Fight to Beat Alzheimer's - From Younger Onset Alzheimer's down to Mild Cognitive Impairment

I just wanted to let you know what transpired at my doctor’s appointment at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday. Dr. Perez told me that the MRI showed that the generalized brain parenchymal volume loss had not changed significantly and thus had not gotten worse from the previous MRIs. He did a quick neuropsych test and I scored a 28 out of 30 so it is in the normal range. That is an improvement over the score of 25 out of 30 which I received last July in the below normal range which had already been an improvement over 2014 since I had shown that most of my aphasia was gone (four months after amalgam removal). Thus, he believes I no longer have Alzheimer’s which is a progressive disease and I only have Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) now. He wants me to do more social things to get out and talk to people now.
I gave him reports about mercury fillings causing Alzheimer's and 40 other diseases and he said he would try to keep an open mind but he didn't spend much time looking at the stacks of papers I printed out or the CD's with dozens of documents from my blog. Well, maybe he may look at some of them someday.
Today, I saw my homeopathic practitioner, Vera Sacks, and after hearing the good news she said I should consider having a conversation with the doctor about weaning off the donepezil and switching out the 10 mg donepezil hydrochloride prescription for 200 mcg of Huperzine A once or twice per day. I had this in my initial strategy and plan since at least three of my books, Dr. Mark Stengler's “Natural Healing Encyclopedia”, Jenny Thompson's “Miracles from the Vault – Underground Cures” and Peggy Sarlin's “Awakening from Alzheimer's” recommend the use of Huperzine A which is also a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor without the higher number of potential side effects that donepezil represents.
Vera also did some more testing and updated my drops, adding some and removing some others. I think with some more mercury detox and stay with a few supplements I can get rid of the MCI. I also received another intravenous drip of 800 mg Alpha-lipoic acid today to build up my glutathione levels too.
Here is the updated list:
Current meds and supplements recommended by medical doctors, Vera Sacks and Irina Serebyakova both of Groton Wellness, “Hal Huggins Assist Report” and “Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing” by James F Balch M.D.and Phyllis A Balch C.N.C and various other sources, Dr. Perez and Dr. Rapa.
  1. Vera Sacks prescribed the following (as part of 3 times per day, upon rising, mid morning and mid afternoon at least 30 minutes before meals) as part of mercury detox
    - Soluna Detoxification and Drainage Therapy by InnovativeMedicine.com (requires homeopathic practitioner to prescribe it) – consisting of:

30 drops of Soluna Nr. 9 Lymphatik for diseases of lymphatic system and detox and drainage
30 drops of Soluna Nr. 16 Renalin for kidneys and urogenital system and detox and drainage
    • 20 drops of Soluna Nr. 18 Splenetik to support spleen function and promote cellular health
    • 20 drops of Soluna Nr. 15 Pulmonik to support respiratory function containing Althaea 2x, Drosera 3x, Eucalypti 4x, Hyssopi 4x, Marrubium 3x, Polygala 3x, Pulmonaria 3x, Salvia 3x, Verbascae 4x, Viola 3x, Silica 3x, Antimonium tartaricum 2x

Vera prescribed the following to help balance my bodies minerals since they were out of balance. She recommended I stop the multivitamin which contained calcium and too many other things which was antagonistic to increasing some minerals in which I was low. I also had to stop the vitamin D and boron supplements. Take the 4,6,and 8 four times a day between meals. See this article on cell salt remedies http://www.brighterdayfoods.com/PDFDocs/l/LR72WHCKJQ1V9LTGKT8CGWX7TM5B1NP5.PDF
    - 10 Pills Hyland's #4 Ferrum Phos, 6x homeopathic cell salts
    - 10 Pills Hyland's #6 Kali Phos, 6x homeopathic cell salts
    - 10 Pills Hyland's #8 Magnesium Phos, 6x homeopathic cell salts (This was an increase from 5 pills each time)
    - Once per week Nux Vomica 30c (usually Friday or Saturday) for liver

Also once a day I would try to take one teaspoon of ReadiSorb or Research Nutritional brand of liposomal glutathione to I increase my total glutathione levels. These need to be refrigerated. I have to wait at least 30 minutes before I can have breakfast. This was recommended by Irina Serebyakova.

At breakfast, I would try to mix 1 TB of coconut oil into my cereal or rice. I would do so again sometimes at afternoon snack or dinner to get medium chain triglycerides (MCT) to allow brain to use ketones instead of glucose for metabolic functions as according to “Stop Alzheimers Now” by Bruce Fife and “Awakening From Alzheimers” by Peggy Sarlin (5) 11/2014

After almost finishing breakfast where that I would take my morning supplements:
    1. 9/2012 Swanson Super DHA from Calamari, (DHA 500 mg EPA 125 mg, 50 mg other Omega 3 Fatty acids) or Swanson Super EPA from ecOmega Fish Oil 300 mg EPA, 200 mg DHA, 50 mg other fatty acids) for cognitive
    2. 3/2013 Swanson Ubiquinol  100 mg (Kaneka QH Enhanced Bioactivity CoQ10) has been switched to Jarrow Ubiquinol QH-absorb100 mg for energy
    3. 6/2014 Donepezil 10 mg for cognitive by Dr. Perez
